Timothy Ledger

For more than a decade, Tim has accrued an array of teaching experience: music theory, aural skills, chamber music, and vocal coaching, in settings from large lecture-style classrooms to one-on-one instruction. As a piano instructor, he has taught a diverse assortment of students between ages 5 and 85, from complete beginners to graduate piano majors.

Timothy was very well organized. He was an expert facilitator of a wildly diverse group, ages 6 to 70, catering to different communication styles and interests, keeping us all engaged and learning. He was very generous in sharing resources in a very structured format, allowing us to review concepts and ideas as well as listen to samples with links and readings, with options to go beyond what was covered in the course.

After leaving academia and moving to Columbus, Ohio, Tim managed DNA Music Academy for two years before transitioning exclusively to his own studio, Ledger Lines Piano Studio. He also became actively involved with the local music teachers’ organizations, and serves as the chair of the Graves Piano Competition for Ohio Music Teachers’ Association and on the executive board of Columbus Music Teachers’ Association.

An amazing teacher. I’m really impressed with the outcome that my son achieved in such a small period. All these due to the great efforts that Tim put, the amazing approach that Tim follows, and the dedication that he commits to make his students successful.

Tim was always supportive and encouraging toward his students. It was a safe and comfortable learning environment that encouraged us to grow and work hard.

Tim has teaching and adjudication experience with various examination programs, and his students have passed exams, including ABRSM (with distinction) and RCM (with first-class honors). His students have also won prizes in competitions, admission to select universities and summer music programs, scholarships from various arts organizations, as well as placement in competitive, non-musical organizations and internships.

Tim was an amazing prof. He always remembered exactly where I was in terms of my skill, and the course material provided helpful, highly personalized feedback each week. His attitude and enthusiasm made me look forward to class each week, even though I am usually very intimidated by keyboard playing in front of others.

Timothy was very responsive to questions and requests not only during class time but also between classes. Many thanks for such a wonderful course! I do hope you will offer another!

By individually tailoring instruction to each student, developing inclusive course materials, and consistently seeking education and evaluating his role as a teacher, Tim encourages the development of impactful and profitable transferable skills in all of his students: active listening, critical thinking, and creative imagination.

He is an excellent teacher and is getting the best out of the twins!
